So far there have been a number of issues with the high street collaboration with Margiela. One of which being that the collection, which was meant to be secret, was leaked to the blogsphere WAY ahead of schedule. This is disaster for a company who are trying to build hype in the run up to a massive collection. Silence is not only golden but helps to build the big bucks.
H&M did a quick email around bloggers that had the images asking them to retract the imagery but to no avail. The problem with the fashion blogsphere is that it spreads like wildfire. Once someone else has the pictures you are on a timescale to see how fast you can reproduce the images. You don't want to be the person who doesn't have the images on offer - it can kill a blog.
But something more serious has just occured then a blogger posting an image here or there - someone has leaked ACTUAL pieces to ebay. The collection which is not due out until November 15th has started appearing on the site uploaded from the US. Considering that a major party (the deets of which sound amazing) was held last night for the collection - rumors are circulating that it was a guest of the party who was given early access to the collection that leaked the pieces.
The mirrorball leggings and white coat have appeared on ebay - at the usual inflated prices. The white coat which retails for £179 is now on sale for over £235 and the leggings which are one of the cheaper pieces are on sale for £65.99 which is a lot considering they were £25.99 before! There is also the silver clutch which was £35 and is now £135!!!!!
This has a much more serious outcome for H&M then a few leaked pictures and I hope they find out who leaked the items.....
