Case happened in Thailand.
Addicted to online games, 17-year-old teenager Piyawat Harikun decided to take advantage of the school holiday to run a computer game marathon on Sunday night. According to his parents, it was common for the teenager to spend all night playing, which invariably also meant the day, hours sitting in front of the computer. They live in Udon Thani, a city in northern Thailand.
On the afternoon of last Monday, his father entered his room and found the teenager lying on the keyboard. “I shouted his name, told him to wake up. I couldn't notice that he was already dead, ”said Jaranwit Harikun. Beside the body were trays of food and a bottle of soda.
According to the medical report, he had a stroke, which doctors said was caused by the exhaustion of playing on the computer without rest all night. His father said Piyawat was addicted to electronic games. “My son was smart and always did well in school, but he had this big problem with gambling addiction.”
Video game addiction (formally known as gambling disorder) has been officially recognized by the World Health Organization as a disease.
