It's actually been a couple of years since I have tried Water Marbling - my last documented attempts were in 2014 and 2015 and they weren't pretty at all!
More recently, I tried a water marbling technique where you just use one colour and rubbling alcohol and I managed to make it work and look good on my nails! Since then, I've really wanted to give Water Marbling another shot! And, I think I've finally gotten the hang of it!
For this week's #CBBxManiMonday theme we chose "neon" and I think it is so perfect for Summer! Who doesn't love neon and bright nails?! Make sure you check out Jayne from Cosmetic Proof, Trysh from Prairie Beauty Love, and Eithne of Tea & Nail Polish to see their take on our weekly theme - they all do amazing nails!
The main neon shade I used in this week's Manicure is Anything Flamingoessss by Nails Inc - it is described as a "a full-coverage, non-fade, neon pink". I had to show it here swatched alone to show how neon pink it really is! It ended up looking a little more muted in my water marble manicure!
The other polishes I used are Color Club in a neon yellow (unknown name) and Sally Hansen in "Hot Tamale"
The steps I followed for my Water Marble manicure were:
1. Nail cleanser and Base coat
2. One or Two coats of white base polish
3. With water in a cup, drop each polish one drop at a time in the water, then repeat the pattern - make sure the drops of polish spread out on the surface of the water (for reference I had 6 drops of polish for this, 2 of each colour)
4. Drag a toothpick across the polishes and create a pattern
5. Dip your finger in the polish and clear the rest of polish on the surface out of the way then remove finger from water and let dry
6. Repeat on all nails
7. Finish with topcoat
I honestly don't really have any tips or tricks to make water marbling easier - I have tried it so many time without success before! This time, I used plain tap water and it was fine. I think it's more important to test your nail polishes - some formulas just sink right to the bottom or don't spread out on the water surface and those just won't work! Test each polish before you get started and it will work easier!
Now that I've gotten the hang of it, I need to work on creating some better patterns with a little more practice!
Have you Water Marbled before? And - do you have any tips for Water Marble newbies?
