Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him)? may not be an extraordinary movie, but in a slow week for offbeat new DVD releases, it's definitely more than good enough for me to make it this week's "Hidden Gem" recommendation for CBC Radio. It's also a great excuse for me to post a bunch of Nilsson-related YouTube clips on the good ol' blog. Here's Harry singing "Good Old Desk" and "Together" on an episode of Playboy After Dark, here he is singing "Everybody's Talkin'" on a platform in a really cavernous and shadowy studio, and here are a couple of the songs he wrote for Robert Altman's underrated Popeye.
